It's here. . .The MakerSpace Laboratory!

Makerspace is a specific area that provides hands-on, creative ways to encourage students to design, experiment, build and invent as they engage in science, engineering, and tinkering. A makerspace is not just merely a math or science lab, shop class, computer lab or art room, however, it may contain components found in all of the spaces that are familiar to our students. Now, that familiarity is encompassed in one space; the LIBRARY!

This will be my first time trying my hands at the MakerSpace concept. Needless to say, I'm scared to death! I follow several librarians on Twitter that are successful at MakerSpaces in their school, joined MakerMedia that connects makers with each other as well as done a great deal of research. I wanted to get an understanding of how it works, what's all involved, and how I can incorporate it into my library. But most importantly, how does the learning shape creativity, imagination, and tinkering, and making for my students? That's a big order...in which it will take small steps to implement. So there, stay with us as our small community of makers embark on this fascinating journey. Check back this fall for some of the innovative projects from our students.
