Sponsored by the Virginia State Reading Association, the Virginia Readers' Choice is an eight-month literature appreciation project to acquaint young readers with outstanding contemporary authors and books. Students in schools from all regions of Virginia cast their votes for their favorite books. We begin the school year by introducing all students to the ten chosen titles. The Virginia State Reading Association has selected these books through a process of nomination.

In order to participate, students agree to read four of the ten books in the program by the end of March 2017.  However, while in the library, students will be listening to books throughout the VRC unit and using the online voting tool by EasyPoll to cast their votes. Each week we will read two or three books, depending upon the length of the books. Each student will use the online voting tool to cast his or her votes. When voting, they are looking for character traits, themes, settings, and plots etc… along with the illustrations to help them with the voting decision. Students will demonstrate the voting process by voting based on how well they feel the author presented the story elements mention above and the quality of the illustrator’s work.
